We welcome your interest in becoming a member of this exciting, new organization and helping us create a formal center of mutual support, intellectual exchange and global understanding of the folk traditions of the American South. Our objective is networking and communication among rootworkers and social scientists worldwide; thus, it is important that as many rootworkers and social scientists as possible join us in this endeavor.
There are important benefits for joining ARA. First is the growing need for an alternative formal membership organization that recognizes the individual's life and/or educational experience as it pertains to rootwork and southern conjure traditions. This includes validating traditional forms of learning such as oral tradition and familial and culture-specific transmission of indigenous knowledges. In providing an open, inclusive membership organization, we foster a unification of practitioners and scholar-practitioners which will serve to advance the formal study of American rootwork as a legitimate area of scientific and cultural inquiry. Membership in the ARA is paid for yearly. One year membership includes a listing on the Membership page, the use of the official ARA seals, newsletter, and online access to the Members Only section of the website and online access to the Journal of American Rootwork. Please note you will be required to sign a Professional Conduct Statement upon joining ARA. We rely on your integrity to maintain a reputation of high standards and ethical behavior. Please review our Code of Ethics and submit a Professional Conduct Statement for behavioral expectations as an ARA member. Join now! |
